This chapter explains the research design used in the book. It combines documentary analysis of the BRH’s monetary-policy notes, examination of IMF, World Bank and other institutional reports, and a critical reading of macroeconomic indicators. The method is both diachronic, because it tracks decisions from 2020 to 2025, and comparative, because it uses contrasts with the Dominican Republic and the wider Caribbean. The chapter justifies a mixed approach: quantitative data illuminate inflation, exchange rates, liquidity, and credit, while qualitative analysis of institutional discourse reveals legitimation strategies and implicit priorities. It also acknowledges the limits of the exercise: data scarcity, statistical uncertainty, and the difficulty of isolating the specific effects of monetary policy in a context of overlapping crises.
